Winter solstice marks the shortest day of the year – the peak of darkness.

Early astronomers noted it as a time when the sun appeared to stand still at the lowest point on the horizon. It signals a time for rest, reflection, and rejuvenation. For community gathering and celebration. For quiet rituals that bring us inward and prepare us for spring.

Western Hills Garden has teamed up with Morihouse to create a special day honoring the solstice at Western Hills Garden.

We had an incredible, sold out celebration and are excited to announce we will be hosting similar events with Morihouse seasonally. Follow us on social or sign up for our newsletter to be the first to know!

Join us.

  • FOOD AND DRINK

Enjoy a bowl of comforting and delicious jook (traditional Chinese rice porridge) loaded with seasonal toppings made by the incredible Morihouse team. Sip a cup of their Two Trees Teahouse tea. Or enjoy a mug of coffee or hot cider as you spend time in the garden.

  • GARDEN WALKS AND TOURS

Take yourself or your group on a self-guided tour, stop at one of the many seating areas around the garden to take in the view. Or join us on a short guided tour to learn more about the history and garden collection. Tours will leave periodically throughout the day.

  • SOLSTICE ACTIVITIES

Add your touch to our Yule alter, hang a wish for the world in our bamboo forest, make a nature-inspired amulet, sit for a Tarot reading, assemble a wreath or greenery swag, release something that isn’t serving you by tossing it in our fire pit, plant a seed, listen to live acoustic guitar from different spots in the garden. Breathe.
