Part-time Gardener
16–24 hours/week | $25–$28/hour | Occidental, CA
Western Hills Garden is looking for an experienced gardener to join our small horticulture team.
This is a hands-on position caring for our three-acre botanical garden and accredited arboretum, home to an unusual collection of plants from around the world, including more than 300 species of trees. The gardener will work alongside our Horticulture Manager, staff, interns, and volunteers on everything from planting, pruning, and irrigation to general garden care and keeping the grounds beautiful and guest-ready.
We’re looking for someone with at least three years of hands-on gardening or landscaping experience, strong plant knowledge, and an interest in thoughtful, collaborative stewardship of a remarkable garden.
Schedule: Approximately 16–24 hours per week (2–3 days)
Compensation: $25–$28/hour, commensurate with experience -
Guest Experience Team
6.5–13 hours/week | $18–$24/hour | Occidental, CA
Western Hills Garden is looking for a Guest Experience Associate to help create a warm, welcoming experience for visitors to the Garden on weekends.
This is a small but important public-facing role. The Associate will greet and orient visitors, handle admissions and retail purchases, prepare and maintain our guest services area, make bouquets, and help keep the Garden and small retail nursery welcoming and guest-ready.
We’re looking for someone with previous hospitality, retail, visitor services, or other customer-facing experience who genuinely enjoys taking care of people. The right person will be warm, dependable, attentive, comfortable working independently, and able to anticipate what helps make a visit feel special. An interest in plants and basic plant care is important; nursery or garden experience is a plus.
Schedule: Approximately 6.5–13 hours per week, primarily Saturdays and/or Sundays, 9:30am–4pm
Compensation: $18–$24/hour, depending on experience
