Speaker Bios:
Sean Hogan: Sean is an acclaimed horticulturist, garden consultant, speaker, and international plant collector. Convinced to become California’s first certified arborist by Western Hills Garden founder Marshall Olbrich, Sean has had a storied career as a Curator at the University of California Botanical Garden at Berkeley, and in 1996 he and his partner Parker founded Cistus Design Nursery on Sauvie Island in Oregon. Sean is a Founding Board Member of the new Portland Botanical Garden and a member of the WHG Horticultural Advisory Committee.
Jim Salyards: Jim has worked at Filoli for 30 years, moving into his current role as Associate Director of Garden Experience in early 2025. Jim oversees a wide range of programs that support Filoli’s external relations, learning and engagement, development, retail, and interpretive strategies, with a particular emphasis on community engagement. He also oversees Filoli’s plant collections work and is responsible for building and nurturing relationships within the fields of public gardens, horticultural science, gardening, retail product production, and the culinary arts.
